Prominent ear is a familial (genetic) problem. In this disorder, the auricle is bent forward, in contrast to the normal anatomic position. Unfortunately, prominent ears can cause serious emotional problems, especially in our children. It is a very common deformity. Since only the bucket is intervened in the operation, there is no problem with the ear function.
Since the ear development is approximately at the age of 6-7 years, this is an operation that can be performed safely at any age and beyond. Before the operation, the patient should talk for a sufficient period of time and their wishes should be clearly stated.
Surgical Technique
The surgery starts with a fusiform incision made behind the ear that is not visible later. After the cartilage to be intervened is revealed, a sufficient amount of cartilage is removed. Cartilage edges are created with non-melting stitches in order to give a natural scoop image. At the end of the operation, the skin is closed, preferably with dissolvable stitches.
Postoperative
The postoperative dressing is preferably opened on the 2nd day and closed again with a tight dressing. Lying on your ear for at least a week may cause pain, but it does not cause any serious problems. It is recommended to wear an ear band at night for at least 6-8 weeks after surgery. You can start exercising 2 weeks after the operation. Your new shape is formed on average in the 3rd week and mostly the permanent shape looks like this. It is recommended that you protect your ear against trauma for 3 months.
